Welcome to the class blog for MGT 205!

We are beginning week two of the course and I'd like to to introduce you to the class blog. This blog has been created for three reasons.

  • To give you another avenue to interact with one another and to build a community by posting your thoughts, pictures, links to your own blogs, etc.
  • To introduce those that have not used blogs to the communication tool
  • To give you an opportunity to earn extra credit points (Who could not benefit from a few extra credit points?)
To earn extra credit, post at least one thoughtful response to an article each week (weeks 2 through 5) to earn ten extra credit points. If you do not post at least one thoughtful response during weeks 2 through 5, you will earn 2 points per week that you post (weeks 2 through 5).

Class, start your blogs!

I am also ready to start Blogging. Even thought I run a few blogs and websites, I can see where this venue can be fun as we get to know one another better.
Here is my personal blog, www.jerryhartzell.com. I have a link with twitter that seems to not work the way I would like, so some of the blogs are meaningless.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Michelle, I have never done this before. I hope I did this correctly. During this workshop, i have become more capable of understanding how people are communicating with me. I never thought how different cultures can communicate the wrong message to other people. And offend them. If we just understood where people come from and the cultures they come from we as a society and or manager could get along with people. Possibly aleviate tensions between employees and have them understand why people are the way they are. We can reduce a lot of conflict. Thanks sue cary

Thanks

I am so happy that we get the opportunity to do this and not just for the extra credit. I have never used a blog before and I often wondered how it worked but never looked into it. This is pretty cool!

The MGT-205 class is off and running. I really enjoy the course as it is very real world. I hope to have a blog presence and this is great practice for me in the future. I wish all of you the best of luck in your pursuits at IWU. Good luck!

Hi Michelle! In our weeks reading, I found the concept of Executive Presence as very interesting. I never heard of that before. Especially since we are in business we should all strive to conduct ourselves everyday with Executive Presence.

Thanks

Thank you for the introduction to blogging! I have a few friends who have their own blogs, but I've never really asked them how it works. Now I know, because I set up my own. It was easy! My one friend has even tried to update hers everyday (as part of a blog challenge), but that's hard to do. It is a good way to keep in touch with people - or to get a glimpse into their thoughts and their life. Thanks Michelle! :-) Kelly W.

I think that attitude is formed every morning when a person wakes up. You can choose to be very positive or negative. I really enjoy when the Lord blesses us with a beautiful sunrise that seems to get the day started for me. Positive all the time is the way that I try to stay.

Hi Michelle! I enjoyed learning about the tips in the book about conducting a meeting. Where I work there are sometimes situations in the past where things have happened during meetings that could have been eliminated. I feel a little more confident after reading this chapter to keep the meeting on task.
Thanks Sue Cary

Responding to Jason Yocum’s post:
It’s true that many peoples’ attitudes are formed every morning when they wake up! We should live each day in a positive mindset but sometimes things get in the way of that!  Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed with so many things in my life that each new morning has not brought about that “it’s a new, beautiful day” attitude. So many of us allow the previous days worries to be carried over to the next day, then the next day and so on. BUT with that being said, we can go on and be happy in our lives knowing that there will be a day when all will be well and perfect! Thank you for the reminder of the “beautiful sunrise”!
Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

This is Lisa Boone from the current class. Ok, well, I don't blog and am not particularly interested in learning how. I don't like to have my "stuff" floating around the net for everyone to see. I don't twitter, facebook or myspace. So, I'm not sure how successful I'm going to be at this.

Hi Michelle, This is the first time I have ever blogged. I am amazed at the different methods of communication that exist in our world today. I remember when instant messaging was the greatest; now there is facebook, blogging, texting, and many others that I'm probably not even aware of. It's an amazing world of communication technology.
